Cookies
Which cookies the site uses, which ones only start if you say yes, and how to change your mind in one click.
This is a legal text. If the translations differ, the Italiano version prevails.

In short
The site uses four technical cookies: they are needed to make it work and by law they do not require your consent.
Then there are statistics and advertising tools belonging to third-party companies — Google Analytics, Google AdSense and the Meta pixel — which do not start until you say yes. And you can accept them one category at a time: statistics yes and advertising no is a valid answer, and it takes one click.
If you refuse, no third-party script is loaded: nothing starts, not even quietly. The site works exactly the same: no page closes, no feature switches off.
What you can choose
| Category | What it does | Can it be refused? |
|---|---|---|
| Necessary | They keep you signed in, remember your language, the place you chose to filter articles by, and the choice you make on the banner. | No. Without them the site does not work, and by law they do not require consent. |
| Statistics | Google Analytics: counting visits and understanding which pages are actually useful. It shows no advertising. | Yes. |
| Advertising and social | Google AdSense and the Meta pixel: showing ads and reaching you on Facebook and Instagram. | Yes. |
The last two are two separate boxes, not a bundle: counting visits and profiling someone for advertising are two different things, and you may want the first without the second.
The four technical cookies
| Name | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
bahay_sess |
Keeps you signed in while you browse, after you have logged in. | Until you close your browser. |
bahay_lingua |
Remembers the language you chose, so you do not have to pick it again every time. | One year. |
bahay_luogo |
Remembers the city or region you chose to filter local articles by. It is not there to work out where you are: we only write it if you choose it yourself, and we never infer it from your IP address. | One year. |
bahay_consenso |
Remembers the choice you make below, so we do not ask again on every page. It contains the version of the banner and the list of categories you accepted: nothing else, and no number that identifies you. | One year. |
What stays on your device and never reaches us
Two things are saved in your browser's local storage. They are not cookies, they do not travel with requests to the server and they never reach us: they stay on your device.
bahay_tema— whether you prefer the light or the dark theme.bahay_avviso_…— which pop-up notices you have already closed, so they do not come back. A notice you have read is not a piece of information we want to hold.
Statistics and advertising: only with your consent
These tools belong to third-party companies, which also use them for their own purposes. They are loaded only after you have accepted their category, and stay off until you do.
| Tool | Who it is | What it does | Where it appears |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Analytics Statistics _ga, _ga_* |
Google Ireland Ltd. | Counting visits and understanding which pages are actually useful. Your IP address is truncated before it is sent. | The whole public site. |
| Google AdSense Advertising and social __gads, __gpi and
doubleclick.net cookies |
Google Ireland Ltd. | Showing ads and measuring how they perform. | Blog and forum only. Never on news, guides, forms, deadlines or your personal area. |
| Meta pixel Advertising and social _fbp, _fbc |
Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd. | Recording that you visited the site, so we can reach you with an ad on Facebook and Instagram and measure our campaigns. | The public site. Never in your personal area, in the guided forms, on the document pages, or on the sign-in and sign-up pages. |
How long these cookies last is decided by the companies that set them: usually from a few months to two years. Their own rules are here: Google privacy notice, how Google uses data from partner sites, Meta privacy notice.
How long your choice lasts
One year, whatever you choose — accept, reject, or close the banner without answering. Then we ask again, because consent is not forever.
The banner comes back sooner only if what we are asking changes: if a new tool were added one day, the consent you gave for the others would not cover it, and the question has to be asked again.
How to change your mind
- From the site, in one click: at the bottom of every page there is Cookie preferences. It reopens this choice with the boxes as they are now, and you can add or remove as many as you like. Withdrawing consent must cost as little as giving it.
- From your browser: you can block or delete third-party cookies in the settings, under privacy or browsing data.
- From Google: ad preferences can be changed at myadcenter.google.com.
- From Meta: in the «Off-Facebook activity» settings of your account.
One thing worth saying plainly: a script already loaded into a page cannot be unloaded. If you untick a box, that tool stops following you from the next page onwards. The cookies it had already set are removed from your browser, or from the Google and Meta pages above.
How we keep a record of your choice
Your choice lives in the bahay_consenso cookie, on
your device: it contains the version of the banner and the
list of categories you accepted, and nothing else.
If you have an account, the same choice is also recorded in our consent register, with the date: this is how we can demonstrate that consent was given, as article 7 of the GDPR requires. Withdrawn consent does not vanish from the register: it is dated as withdrawn.
If you do not have an account we record nothing, and that is not an oversight: to do it we would have to give you an identifying number — that is, add tracking to precisely the person who has just said they do not want any. That trade did not seem worth it.
Transfers outside the European Union
Google and Meta may transfer data to the United States. We cover this in full in the privacy notice, under transfers. The thing that matters: if you refuse, none of your data leaves the European Union for these purposes.
Three things we do not do
- No advertising where you are filling in an application. Guided forms, deadlines and your personal area stay clean: no ads, no advertising scripts, not even the pixel.
- No banners of ours with third-party code inside. Our own promotions — service notices and news about the site — are text written by us, not scripts. A banner where HTML can be pasted eventually becomes the place where somebody else's script ends up.
- No walls. The banner does not cover the text, does not block reading, and does not ask you to pay in order to refuse. It is a question, not a toll.
